When I see a client dealing with plugged ducts, I suggest a variety of methods to help clear up the clogs. We then want to address any underlying cause of clogs to prevent them from happening again. But sometimes, those plugs are stubborn! When no amount of massaging, heating, pumping, nursing, dangle nursing with chin pointed toward the clog, vibrating electric toothbrush, etc etc etc seems to do the trick, my go-to suggestion is a castor oil pack. It's essentially an amped-up warm compress with inflammation-reducing castor oil. You will need: -a wash cloth
-a plastic bag OR plastic wrap
-a heating pad or warm rice sock To make and apply
1. Dampen the wash cloth with warm water and fold to fit the area
2. Pour about a tablespoon of castor oil on
3. Place over the area
4. Cover with the plastic bag/wrap to protect the heating pad or rice sock
5. Place heating pad set on low or warm rice sock on top of the plastic. 6. Let sit for 20 minutes, then wash the area with soap and water to remove the castor oil before
7. Pump or nurse Many parents I've worked over the years with have reported that they got relief from a stubborn clog after 1-2 applications of castor oil packs.
